Luis (Soto) Muñoz was born in Baena, Córdoba, in 2000 and is based in Madrid. He works as a film director, screenwriter, editor and commercial director.
In 2020, he directed his first film, El cuento del limonero.
His debut feature, Dreams and Crumbs (Sueños y pan), had its Spanish premiere at Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, where it won Best National Film. It was also selected for the Seville European Film Festival, D’A Film Festival Barcelona, Rizoma, Ibizacinefest, the Nantes Spanish Film Festival, where it won the debut feature award, and the San Sebastián Film Festival.
In 2023, he completed The Trail Left by Time (Los restos del pasar), a feature selected for Cannes Docs at the Marché du Film. It premiered at the Gijón International Film Festival, winning the FIPRESCI Award and Best Editing. It subsequently screened at DocumentaMadrid, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival, Bergamo Film Meeting, L’Europe autour de l’Europe in Paris and the Hong Kong International Film Festival.
He is currently in post-production on Somos los mejores, a Spanish–French co-production produced by Sincio de Pelis that explores the intersection of cinema, video games and digital memory.
As an editor, he has worked on films including OAO by Rocío Mesa, Mi última gran montaña by Begoña D. Berenguer and Lecho de pasto by Carmela Román.
Alongside his film practice, he directs and edits campaigns for brands and institutions including LALIGA, Museo del Traje, Universidad Europea, Castilla-La Mancha and the Alexander Calder Foundation. His film 1:1 Nature Masterpiece received one Gold and two Bronze awards at the Club de Creativos’ 2025 National Creativity Awards. He is represented by BSWT.
His cinema draws on rural landscapes as narrative and emotional spaces. Interested in decentralised approaches to production, he makes films away from the industry’s usual centres, creating worlds shaped by absence, memory and adolescent drift. His work combines documentary and fiction with traces of magical realism and the ghostly worlds of Ibero-American literature.
